Original Summary
This is a side project I’ve been working on for a few weeks, and I’ve finally reached the point where I use it every day for building software myself. Once I started using AI for coding, every tool I tried wanted me somewhere else. There was a chat panel, a terminal agent, or a separate app, and then I’d come back to a pile of diffs to read. I’d gone from writing code to reviewing it, and I didn’t like that. I still wanted AI, just in the place where I’m already working. So I built Jig. You select some code, hit ⌘K, type what you want or pick a saved prompt, and the change shows up inline right there. Tab keeps it, Esc throws it away. When I want something bigger done, the same box can hand the job to an agent like Claude Code or OpenCode. Even then, every edit it wants to make shows up as a preview in the file first, and nothing gets written until I say yes. The rest is just a normal editor: language servers, Git, a debugger, run configs, themes. It’s written in Rust on GPUI (the UI framework Zed uses). It’s mainly for macOS, but it builds on Linux and Windows too. Honestly, I’m not trying to get loads of users. I built it to fit the way I like to work, I enjoy using it, and I thought some of you might find the idea interesting. If you try it or have thoughts, I’d love to hear them. https://github.com/lucasdias111/jig submitted by /u/monsieur_ramboz [link] [comments]
