Hey all — I've been building agent-compose and the alpha (v0.16.0) is out. Looking for people to break it. Why: my workflows lived in skills and crons. Crons were brittle; skills are great but you still write scripts wherever you need determinism. And workflows are harness-specific — some harnesses have a workflow story, some don't, nothing ports. I didn't want to review workflow code anymore — I wanted a simple, higher-level DSL I can iterate on and grok at a glance. Graphs with data flows are just easier for me to visualize and reason about than code. What it is: a declarative YAML DSL for agent graphs. agent-compose visualize renders the graph as one HTML page. Because everything is declarative, a single static Rust binary verifies the graph before anything runs — reference/schema resolution on every edge, routing exhaustiveness, cycle termination, fan-out bounds, dozens of checks — then compiles to a LangGraph TypeScript project (Bun / Node ≥ 22.18). Worth knowing: Harness-agnostic: coder: nodes run a Claude Code/Codex harness as one node; harness: is a binding, so swapping harnesses doesn't rewrite the workflow. Per-dispatch workspaces (workspace: fresh = isolated dir per dispatch), access presets, journaled effects (resume never re-runs a harness). Determinism without scripts: retry/timeout/error policy are node properties; map state writes declare reduce policies. Self-teaching binary: agent-compose docs is the grammar reference, explain <code> expands diagnostics — both ship in the binary. Distributed runtime: journal-backed, Postgres/MySQL kv stores and journals behind one interface, detached deliveries, child executions.
