Original Summary
Hi, I'm Hugo. Since 2024, six of us in my family have run a fitness challenge: daily goals for food and movement, everyone sees everyone's day, and a small fine for a bad day that goes to charity. Around €400 so far. It started on WhatsApp with a spreadsheet, and it worked better than any app we tried. I think because the accountability came from people we actually know. In April 2025 I built FitRats for us. Honestly, the rules took much longer than the code. We kept reading about habit formation, nutrition and the psychology of motivation, and every new idea became a trial in the group. Rest days made skipping easier, so they went away. A yellow day can be recovered by a good next day, because one slip shouldn't snowball into "I already failed, whatever". Most ideas didn't survive. The version we use today is the one that did. Some numbers: 72 accounts, 34 people who logged at least one day, 3,307 days and 3,064 meals logged. Still mostly friends and family, which is why I'm posting here. What it does today: - your own goals or the group's (workouts, steps, calories, protein, sleep) - each day turns green, yellow or red, and the group sees it - a weekly podium, and optional stakes for a charity or a group fund (paid between you, the app never touches money) - meal tracking with barcode scan, Apple Health and Health Connect It's on the App Store, and Android is in beta. If you don't have a group, there's an open challenge anyone can join: https://fitrats.app/join/3565c9f7-d432-432b-bfa0-14eae648062d?src=reddit-sideproject I'd love honest feedback, especially from anyone who has tried to keep a group of friends consistent. What made it fall apart? Thanks a lot! =) submitted by /u/Warm-Isopod5829 [link] [comments]
