Original Summary
I have used many speed readers before, all lacking the functionality I desire as a student who reads all the time. I wanted something that allows you save and take notes, highlight, and scan physical pages of text books. I personally have trouble with reading line by line like one would normally do with books, which is why I like RSVP technology. I have to read a shit ton of articles to do research, obviously, so I added the functionality of being able to plop an article URL into the site and it will get rid of the noise on the site and only read you the article. It scans for chapters in books you upload or scan so you can hop between chapters and book mark things. I am actively looking for feedback from beta testers who are willing to spend the precious time out of their day to give me recommendations on how I can improve on this app, especially for the studying efficiency aspect of it as this is the whole reason I have built this. The first 20 people who sign up with an email will get an email from me handing you a key that gives you extra time having full website access. All I ask is that you tell me what's broken and what's missing, either by replying to that email or through the Suggestions button in the app. Basically any useful text file type is supported; pdf, epub, docx, odt, pptx, fb2, mobi, azw, azw3, prc, tex, srt, vtt, and probably more I am forgetting since it is late. All rendered locally in your browser so you don't have to worry about me harvesting your data to train AI or something. The site is mobile friendly, and since you can drop URLs in, you don't have to worry about figuring out how to transfer PDFs into the site. I am also working on OCR (optical character recognition) for book scanning. The way it will work is you have a book or letters out in front of you, you press a scan button on the site, take a picture, then you just read. The site is grimoire.meme . submitted by /u/Book_Informal [link] [comments]
