Original Summary
I'm 17 years old and before this I'd only done a bit of Python and never shipped anything. I'm at the very beginning, so I'm not here to teach anything, I'm here to ask for advice. On August 3rd, around midnight, I was playing Roblox and thinking about a game idea. At the same time I was thinking about how my own edit sessions always went: "I'll just watch one YouTube reference clip", and 40 minutes later I'm deep in recommendations. I closed the game and started building at 1:33 AM. By 4 AM I had a first working version. I built it with Claude as my coding partner. CutFocus is a Windows app for video editors (Electron + Supabase). It started as Focus Mode: it hides YouTube's homepage, Shorts and recommendations while you edit, and starts automatically with Premiere, DaVinci, CapCut and others. Since then it grew: stock media and sound effects search, clips with timestamps, notes, templates. It's $199 lifetime or $9.99/month, with a 7-day free trial. Where I honestly am (5 weeks after launch) Paying customers: 0. People who have tried it: a couple of friends. Nobody else. Website: about 10 visitors in the last 30 days, roughly half from the US and half from Hungary. Product Hunt: 1 upvote, 3 follows. Reddit: a post in r/SideProject brought my first visitors. YouTube Shorts: 66, then 114, then 243 views. What i got so far: A few weeks after launch I found out my payment webhook was broken, so no real purchase could have delivered a license key. Nobody had bought yet, so nothing was lost, but I launched without testing the most important thing. I sold it as a "YouTube recommendation blocker". Free browser extensions already do that, so I'm repositioning it as an editing workspace. I'm honestly not sure that's the right call. What I'm doing for the next 3 weeks 3 personal outreach messages a day to editors and agencies, text posts in communities like this one, and then judging it by the numbers instead of my feelings. What I'd love your advice on: How did you get your first 10 users when nobody knew you? If you edit videos: does "editing workspace" sound more useful to you than "distraction blocker"? Anything you'd stop doing in my plan? submitted by /u/Panda1777_GOAT [link] [comments]
