Clarity - I built an AI that reads a text before you reply (and tells you when not to send anything)

Original Summary
I kept doing the same thing: get a vague text ("lol sure, maybe sometime"), spend 40 minutes overthinking it, ask three friends, then send something I regretted. So I built Clarity. To be upfront: it's an AI (a large language model), not a person, not a therapist. It's meant to be a second look before you hit send, not something that thinks for you. What it does: - Paste their message, upload a screenshot, or just describe what happened — one box, it figures out which. - It splits what it actually knows from what it's guessing ("What I know / Still unknown"), so it doesn't invent facts you never told it. - It gives a verdict — send, wait, or talk in person — and when to do it (e.g. "not at 2am, tomorrow evening"). - If a reply makes sense, it drafts one you can edit directly, plus "Shorter" / "More casual" buttons. Optional: paste 2–3 of your own messages and it matches your tone. - For screenshots it reads the chat back to you first ("Is the right-hand side you?") so you can fix it if it mixed up who said what. - It replies in whatever language you write in. Privacy: it doesn't keep what you type or the answers, and screenshots aren't saved — they're held in memory just long enough to read. Your text and the image do go to Google's Gemini (via Vertex AI) to generate the answer, so crop out names and photos before uploading. It's free to try (3 conversations a day, no signup). Link in the first comment. Where I'd love feedback: Did the "send / wait" call feel right, or did it overreach? Screenshot reading — did it get who-said-what correct? Would you actually come back to it, or is this a one-time thing? Known weak spot: if your messages are on the left side of a screenshot (some apps do this), it sometimes guesses wrong — that's why it asks before reading. Not for emergencies. If something involves your safety, it shows crisis resources instead of texting advice. submitted by /u/TianYanmeng [link] [comments]
