Original Summary

one of our team posted here last year about August. 9000 users, 120 signups a day, completely free health app, zero revenue, burning money on UGC creators. couple people in that thread asked how we’d ever make money and honestly none of us had an answer. im the founder, figured the update should come from me. so, update: we became an actual healthcare service. the AI part is still free, but now theres real board certified doctors behind it. chat visits, prescriptions sent to your pharmacy, lab tests. all 50 states. took most of the year and the compliance stuff alone (HIPAA, SOC 2, legit script) nearly killed me. separate post on that if anyone cares. where we are now: 9M users, [$17k] MRR after 40 weeks of charging. the pricing lesson I did not expect. a one off doctor visit with us is $39. the membership is $29/month and your first visit is included. yes, the membership costs less than a single visit. I was sure this would feel like a scam and tank conversion. opposite happened. turns out when you tell people straight, join for 29, use the visit, cancel after if you want, enough of them stay for the $19 follow up visits and the lab discounts that the math works. being blunt about the cancel button converted better than hiding it. still feels illegal to say out loud. funny thing about who actually pays us. I assumed regular consumers. a noticeable chunk turned out to be self employed people and indie founders. basically people who quit a job, lost employer insurance, never replaced it. 29 bucks with a doctor visit included apparently beats explaining your deductible to an urgent care front desk. took us months to notice our own customer. whats still hard: [the real current struggle, churn or CAC or whatever it honestly is] site is meetaugust.ai , pricing is right on the homepage if you wanna poke at it or try it. real question for anyone whos priced a membership against one off purchases: would you have gated the first visit instead of including it? everyone I ask is split 50/50. submitted by /u/Void_x7600 [link] [comments]
