Original Summary
I moved from an iPhone to Android and couldn't find a podcast app I actually liked using. Most felt dated or crowded, so I started building my own. It's called GlassCast, and it's at version 1.7 as of October 13th, 2026. The idea I started from: the player takes its colors from the cover of whatever you're listening to, so every show looks a little different. The rest grew out of what I wanted day to day: - A Latest tab with new episodes from every show you follow - Speed, Skip silence, Boost voices, and a sleep timer that a shake restarts - Chapters, show notes, transcripts, and bookmarks with notes - New episodes download on their own over Wi-Fi - Chromecast, Android Auto, and its own interface on Android TV - gPodder and Nextcloud sync, OPML import and export - English and Korean support It's free, with no ads and no account. What you listen to stays on your phone, and there's no GlassCast server. It isn't on the Play Store. You can get the APK from the site, and the app checks for updates itself: https://anixitea.github.io/glasscast/ I'm building it on my own, so I'd love to hear what feels off or what's missing. submitted by /u/jung-gaon [link] [comments]
