Original Summary

Hi everyone! I wanted to share something a little personal and hopefully get some honest opinions. I'm a new mom, and I've been thinking a lot about my future and how I can build something of my own. Financial independence is something that's really important to me, and I wanted to give myself a chance to create something instead of just thinking about it. I've always been the kind of person who likes to know where my money is going. For a long time, I used spreadsheets to organize my finances. I'd sit there entering expenses, checking transactions, updating everything... and honestly, it was exhausting sometimes. 😂 I know spreadsheets work for a lot of people, but I kept thinking, there has to be an easier way to do this. Especially now that I'm a mom. Some days I barely have time for myself, let alone sit down and organize a bunch of numbers. And something else always bothered me: those little amounts of money that disappear without us really noticing. A subscription you forgot to cancel, a random fee, a recurring charge you didn't remember signing up for... individually they might seem small, but over time they add up. I started thinking about these as "money leaks." And that's where the idea for Expense Canary came from. I wanted to create something that would make it easier to see where your money is going and catch those little money leaks without having to spend so much time doing everything manually. I'm not going to pretend I have everything figured out. 😅 I'm still learning so much about creating a product, getting people to discover it, and figuring out what actually makes an app useful. But I decided to give it a try, and now Expense Canary is available on iOS and Android. It's a little scary putting something you've worked on out into the world, especially when you're trying to build something for yourself and your family's future. I guess that's also why I'm posting here. I'd love to hear from people who aren't my friends or family and who can give me a completely honest opinion. Do you ever feel like you're losing track of small expenses or paying for things you barely notice? How do you deal with that? And if you've ever built something of your own, I'd love to hear how you got started too. Thanks for taking the time to read this. ❤️ If anyone is curious and wants to check out the app: 🐤 🍎 iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/expense-canary/id6781128869?ppid=0c5bf555-afb7-4fc0-ae6a-da7ceb23557e 🤖 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.expensecanary I'd genuinely love to hear what you think, especially what could be improved. I'm still learning, and feedback from people outside my friends and family would mean a lot to me. submitted by /u/ApprehensivePace3098 [link] [comments]
