Original Summary
Howdy folks, I'm a lifelong comic collector and software developer, and I've been spending a lot of my free time over the past year building something I've wanted to exist for years. It's called ComixCatalog , and the simplest way to describe it is Discogs for comic books . Discogs was a big inspiration as I had a roommate regularly shopping for vinyl over COVID and I was trying to complete obscure Coheed and Cambria comic runs... I love collecting, but I've always felt like the process of cataloging your books, tracking what they're worth, finding missing issues, and eventually selling or trading them is more fragmented than it needs to be. So I started building a place where those things work together. Here's what's working so far: Catalog your collection and maintain a separate wantlist. Search across major publishers, older books, and independent titles. Track individual copies, including condition and relevant details. Scan a comic cover to find matching issues. View estimated values and relevant market listings. List books for sale directly from your collection. One thing I've been especially focused on is obscure books and variants. I don't want a catalog that only works well for the same handful of popular Marvel and DC titles. The site is live at https://comixcatalog.com , although it's still actively being developed. There are rough edges, and I'm working through them. I'm not here to claim I've reinvented comic collecting or that the established apps are terrible. I just think there's room to build something that approaches the whole collecting experience a little differently. I almost gave up from comparing my year one to LoCG or others' year 10. I think there's room for something better. I'd genuinely appreciate feedback, especially from people with large collections, obscure runs, or experience selling books online. What's missing from the tools you use now? And what would actually convince you to try something new? Thanks for taking a look! submitted by /u/AboboMutombo [link] [comments]
