Original Summary

Back in 2015, I released a little Mac app called Kitty Launcher. It started as a bunch of scripts on my desktop that I’d use to open all the apps, folders, and files I needed for different projects. Eventually, I had so many scripts that I decided to turn them into an actual app. Kitty Launcher was born, a little cat that lived in the macOS menu bar and helped launch everything I needed. I sold it for $5. It didn’t sell particularly well, but I learned something interesting. Even with a handful of customers, selling software comes with responsibilities. Support, bug fixes, expectations. All perfectly reasonable, but it requires time and effort, away from building. Eventually, I made it free. Fast forward 11 years, and I was still using Kitty Launcher myself. Earlier this year, I decided to rebuild it from scratch since I kept seeing that warning about support ending for Intel-based apps. What started as a relatively simple modernization turned into a much bigger project, with tons of new functionality, including dev server monitoring, time tracking, and even AI agent integration. And I had a blast building it and updating the website. It was rough. I’ve spent a lot of time over the years building things, figuring out how to monetize them, creating websites, thinking about marketing, and trying to get people to discover them. But the part I genuinely enjoy most is building cool things . So I’m trying something different with Kitty Launcher 2. It’s completely free. Every feature. No trials, subscriptions, or locked functionality. There is an optional, pay-what-you-want Supporter License for anyone who finds it useful and wants to support the project. You get a license as a little thank-you, but it doesn’t unlock anything because there’s nothing locked. I figured I’d share it here in case someone else finds it useful. For anyone wondering what it actually does, Kitty Launcher is a little macOS menu bar app for automating everyday workflows. You can launch a whole set of apps, folders, and websites with one click, spin up dev servers, close distracting apps when you need to focus, or keep your Mac awake while something runs. You can create different setups for coding, editing, work, gaming, or whatever else you do on your Mac. And with the CLI, you can have any AI agent setup and launch projects for you. https://kittylauncher.com/ submitted by /u/Ill_Command_1200 [link] [comments]
