Original Summary
I run a small software shop in Germany. For a few customers in logistics and retail I kept building the same thing: take data from an ERP, put it on a label or a delivery note, send it to a printer. So I turned it into a product: VeloxFactory . The idea: one HTTP call, one finished document. POST /api/v1/report-config/{name}/render Authorization: Bearer <token> { "outputType": "base64", "parameters": { "P_ARTICLE_NUMBER": "4561287-154" } } What it does today Templates: design in Jaspersoft Studio, upload the .jrxml. Parameters, fields and image resources are detected automatically, and a preview thumbnail is generated. Data: send JSON with the request, or read live from MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL or SQL Server. Output: Base64, a URL, or straight into a print task. Printing: a Windows print service picks up print tasks via WebSocket plus a safety poll. A local journal prevents double prints. It runs headless from the Task Scheduler and has a UI for setup and monitoring. Scan2Print: a mobile scan mask. Scan a barcode, get the label. About 800 ms from scan to label. Mailing and scheduling: mail templates with placeholders, rate limits per mailer, cron jobs with a preview of the next runs. Every run is logged with a trace id. History: request, response, PDF and thumbnail for every render, with re-print, re-send and automatic purge. MCP server: 89 tools, so an AI assistant can create and print documents through the public API. How it renders: no JVM and no Jaspersoft Server. The engine is our own fork of JasperPHP (MIT) on top of TCPDF. It covers the common .jrxml features, not all of JasperReports. The supported features are documented, so you can check your templates before you rely on it. In production: one customer prints 4,000+ labels a day from ERP data. Another (Zeller Present, home and lifestyle products) generates up to 12 PPWR compliance documents per article from four templates, for about 2,200 articles. VeloxFactory itself needed no changes for that. Stack: Laravel 12, runs wherever PHP runs, including small single-board machines on the shop floor. Disclosure: it's a commercial product (self-hosted perpetual licence or managed hosting in Germany), not open source. Try it without signing up: https://veloxfactory.dev/tryout Docs: https://docs.veloxfactory.dev/books/veloxfactory Site: https://veloxfactory.dev I'd love feedback, especially from people who moved away from JasperReports Server or Crystal Reports. What made you switch, and what would you need before trusting a PHP render engine with your templates? submitted by /u/-rvx [link] [comments]
