Original Summary

A few months ago I started building my first app. I had an idea that seemed pretty simple at the time and thought it would be a fun project to work on in my free time. I genuinely had no idea how much work it would turn into. At first it was really exciting. Every little thing I got working felt like a huge achievement. I would spend hours trying to fix something, finally get it working, and then immediately start thinking about what I could add next. But the longer I’ve been working on it, the more I’ve realized that actually building something people can use is a completely different story. There have been so many moments where I thought I was almost finished, only to discover another problem that would take me days to figure out. Sometimes I would spend an entire evening working on something and somehow end up with more problems than when I started. The funny thing is that I still really enjoy it. Even when I’m frustrated, I find myself thinking about the app when I’m doing completely unrelated things. I’ll randomly come up with an idea while walking somewhere and immediately want to go home and try it. I also never expected how personal it would feel. When you’ve spent so much time on something, even the smallest bit of feedback can make your entire day. And when something doesn’t work out, it’s surprisingly hard not to take it personally. I’m now at the point where the app actually works and other people can use it, which still feels a little strange to say. I don’t really know where it’s going to go from here, but I’ve already learned more from building this one thing than I expected. Just curious if other people who have built their own apps recognize this feeling. Does it ever stop feeling like there’s always one more thing to fix? submitted by /u/MaximumGiraffe7838 [link] [comments]
