Original Summary
I've been building GTINK OS, a Python/Tkinter desktop environment that runs on Windows. It has its own desktop interface, launcher, File Manager, Terminal, Settings, and virtual DATA and DEV drives. Two suggestions got me thinking about the next step: make the Terminal extensible with Python plugins, and let developers register their own launcher apps with an icon and optional Settings entry. It's a work in progress, and I'm collecting feedback before locking in the design. Before I build too far in one direction, I'd love to hear from people who build their own tools: • Would you bring your own Python scripts or utilities into an environment like this? • Would you rather create Terminal commands, launcher apps, or have one plugin support both? • How would you want to install extensions: folder, ZIP, GitHub, or a curated catalog? • What would you need to trust third-party plugins—visible source, permissions, compatibility info, reviews, or warnings before code runs? I'm especially interested in real examples and trade-offs, not just feature wish lists. If you've built or used plugin systems, what worked well and what became frustrating?
