Original Summary
I'm Aliaksandr, the solo creator of With Alia, an Android AI companion built around one continuing personality. Alia now has a voice: beta testers can listen to her written replies, using ElevenLabs speech models. The part that interests me most is how voice fits with character. Alia is built around an ongoing conversation, with memory and a recognizable personality. My aim is for a calm, natural female voice to carry the warmth, humor and emotional tone of those replies. Together, those elements can make a conversation feel more vivid and personal. She's still an AI companion, but the way a sentence sounds can change how it lands. A small discussion I started here on Reddit raised a useful point: a short 'OK' is faster to read, while a longer reply or the tone behind a joke may be worth listening to. That's feedback about the idea, not a claim that those commenters have tried this beta. This release is reply read-aloud. Voice input is planned, and live calls will likely come later; I don't have a firm date for those yet. The existing text app is publicly available on Android in English and Russian. The new voice feature is currently limited to beta testers. With Alia: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.withalia.app When you use an AI companion, does a realistic voice make the conversation more enjoyable, or can it feel too intense? What makes a voice fit a personality for you? submitted by /u/Ok-Assistant914 [link] [comments]
