Original Summary
Over the past couple years I've built a bunch of open-source projects and I keep doing it - but I realized it's so hard to be visible and get any attention for your project. So I decided to look around and check what everyone else is doing: I analyzed this very channel and built a dashboard from it. I took AI (I use GLM-5.3), pointed it at every submission to r/SideProject from Jan 1 to Sep 13 2026 (I used the Arctic Shift archive), result - ~230K raw posts, and this is what I got: ~355 projects announced every single day . Every day. All year. 29% of them wave an AI flag (mention GPT/LLM/Claude/Gemini/chatbot in the post). The median project gets exactly 1 upvote . 71% launch to 0–1. Let's see how much I got with this post. The winners are simple , delightful projects like a wallpaper that shifts perspective when you move your head, an automated pigeon defense system, and an app that turns your walks into a fog-of-war map. No SaaS. No dashboards. Just fun. We are all "I built" something: "built" appears 35,924 times in titles.
