Original Summary
I was building a few automations that needed youtube transcripts. Summaries, a small search tool over lecture videos, nothing fancy. Used the python library like everyone and it was fine until i went past a couple hundred videos a day. Then youtube started sending empty responses. No error, just a 200 with nothing in it, so my stuff kept running on blank text and i didnt notice for a while. Bought residential proxies, rotated them, it helped for a week. A month later i was $300 down and still checking logs every morning. I looked for something to pay for. What i found was either apify actors where i had to figure out pricing per run, or rapidapi listings that were dead half the time. None of them i wanted to depend on. So i built it myself, mostly out of spite. Proxy pool, retries, caching, one endpoint that takes a url and gives back the transcript. Later added channel and playlist stuff because i needed it, and an mcp server so claude and cursor can grab transcripts on their own without me pasting anything. Its at transcriptapi now. Some people pay for it which still surprises me a bit. The annoying part never went away though. Youtube changes something every couple weeks and i fix it, sometimes in 20 min, sometimes it eats my sunday. Thats the job now i guess. If anyone here is pulling transcripts at volume id like to hear what breaks for you, i keep finding new edge cases submitted by /u/Level-Ad-4878 [link] [comments]
