Original Summary
Hey r/SideProject , Café, library, airport gate, coworking desk, hotel lobby. Sooner or later you have to step away from your MacBook. You either pack everything up or ask a stranger to watch it. I wanted a third option, so I built Deskwatch. What it does - Click once in the menu bar and walk away - If someone moves your MacBook, a siren plays at full volume - The screen locks at the same time - Only your Touch ID turns it off - Closing the lid sets it off too What Reddit changed When I first launched, people here pointed out that thieves close the lid first. A closed MacBook used to go to sleep, which stopped the siren. So 1.1 keeps the Mac awake while protection is on, and closing the lid now sets off the alarm. Others asked for it to turn on by itself, like a car alarm. 1.2 added that: lock your Mac and protection turns on. Unlock it and protection turns off. Details - Native macOS menu bar app - Your motion data stays on your Mac - $4.99 once, no subscription, one key for one Mac What I'd love feedback on: 1. Would you use this, and where? Café, library, coworking space? 2. What would stop you from buying it? 3. The next feature people asked for is "safe places", so it stays off on your home Wi-Fi. Is that worth it? mydeskwatch.com Happy to answer anything. submitted by /u/Healthy-Tension-7470 [link] [comments]
