Original Summary
A few of us at work pay for pretty much everything with our ether_fi cards (a crypto Visa card). The card is good, but the app has no spending reports at all. No categories, no monthly totals, and cashback is weirdly hard to keep track of when you spend in more than one currency. You can export your transaction history as an Excel file though, so that's where we started. You drop in the export and get spending by category, this month vs last month, detected subscriptions, a yearly activity heatmap, and the cashback you've earned plus your effective rate. The part we cared about most is that it's all done locally. The file is parsed in the browser, stored in IndexedDB, and there's no backend at all. You can install it as a PWA and it works offline. It didn't feel right to build a finance tool for crypto people and then ask them to upload their card history to our server. Stuff that was more annoying than expected: - The export has a summary block above the real header row, so we detect the header by column names instead of assuming row 1 - There's no transaction ID, so re-importing a newer export needed a composite key to avoid duplicates. Pending purchases also had to flip to cleared without creating a second row - Money is stored in integer cents and never summed across currencies. That's also why there's no combined total yet, it needs historical exchange rates It only supports ether_fi for now. If you don't have the card there's a demo with sample data. Would really appreciate feedback, especially on anything confusing the first time you open it. https://web3spend.app submitted by /u/jordan-enev [link] [comments]
