I use Claude Code heavily, but I kept finding myself jumping between the terminal, editor, Git client, Docker, browser and other tools. So I started building vIDE. Rather than replacing the coding agent, the IDE is built around it. Claude Code runs as a first-class terminal agent, and there’s also a Bridge for OpenAI-compatible local models. I’ve gradually added the other things I wanted in the same workspace: multi-repo Git tooling, Docker controls, inline AI edits, an MCP-enabled browser, Notes and To Do board, mobile access, and a codebase knowledge graph. One slightly unusual goal is memory usage. I run local models too, so I don’t want the IDE consuming RAM that could instead go to the model. It’s open source and still pre-1.0.
