Original Summary

Solo dev from Türkiye. For the past year I've been building two apps on the side, and both are completely free: no ads, no subscription, nothing locked. ReadArabic teaches Arabic by reading real short stories and news. Tap any word and you get its meaning, root, and role in the sentence. Every sentence has a listen button, and each story ends with a short quiz. It's at 30K+ downloads with a 4.9★ rating. Hafiz Nuru is a Quran memorization app built around listening and repetition. Each ayah repeats N times, then gets chained to the previous one. It has 15 reciters and an offline mode. Stack: React + Vite wrapped with Capacitor for Android/iOS, a NestJS + Postgres backend, AI word analysis cached per word and sentence context so repeated lookups cost nothing, and pre-generated TTS audio for words. Things I learned: - Caching AI responses by context, not just by word, was the biggest cost win. Most taps hit the cache. - 9 UI languages mattered more than any feature. Russian-speaking users showed up on their own once the store listing was localized. - Free + no ads gets you surprisingly far in app store ratings. People leave reviews just to say thanks. - Reddit communities in this niche are mostly closed to self-promotion, so organic store discovery has been the main growth channel. Funding is just an optional donation for server costs.
