I maintain speech-swift, an open-source speech library for Apple Silicon. I added NVIDIA's Nemotron VoiceChat 11B using Swift and MLX, then connected its tool calls to Apple Reminders through MCP. The recorded demo shows it listing, creating, and updating real reminders. Speech inference runs on the Mac after the model download. There are several decisions between hearing a request and completing it: whether the person has finished speaking, what to do if they interrupt, when to execute a tool, and when to speak again. The model proposes a tool call; the runtime executes it and returns the result to the model. I wrote an article explaining those pieces, alongside the separate turn-completion work in our Swift, C++, and Android libraries.
