Original Summary
This is where many Seed-stage SaaS and AI startups get differentiation wrong. They say: → Better AI → Faster platform → More features → Easier to use → Lower price → Better UX Your competitors can say the same thing. And if they can copy your differentiation in a few months, it's not much of a moat. Instead, build differentiation around what you choose to own. Start with 5 questions: 1. Who do you serve better than anyone else? Don't target “SMBs.” Own a specific segment. 2. What painful problem do you understand unusually well? Not a broad category. A specific, expensive problem. 3. What outcome do you help them achieve? Don't sell the technology. Sell the transformation. 4. What do you believe that competitors don't? Your point of view can become part of your positioning. 5. What can you become known for? The strongest brands often own a simple idea in the customer's mind. For example: Don't be: “An AI automation platform.” Be known as: “The revenue operations platform built specifically for B2B SaaS companies under 100 employees.” That's a much stronger position. Because differentiation isn't: “We're better.” It's: “We're the obvious choice for this specific customer with this specific problem.” And the earlier you establish that position, the easier everything downstream becomes: Positioning → Messaging → Content → Acquisition → Sales → Growth Your product doesn't need to be unique in every way. Your position needs to be memorable. If you're building a SaaS/AI startup, ask yourself: What is the one thing you want your ideal customer to remember you for? submitted by /u/sonusuman [link] [comments]
