Original Summary
Hey everyone, Whenever an election, major sports drama, or crypto pump happens, my feed on X becomes almost unbearable to read. I tried using native keyword muting, but it is notoriously broken: - Muting "crypto" accidentally kills legitimate computer science and cryptography discussions, when all you wanted was to filter out speculative blockchain and memecoin hype. - For politics, you cannot possibly maintain a blocklist of every politician, bill, and government official's name. There are thousands, and new ragebait topics spawn every day. - Muting "match" or "game" breaks regular gaming talk just to avoid sports flame wars. Traditional generative LLMs (like GPT-4o or Claude) are not viable for scrolling feeds either: they cost a fortune and have 1.5 to 3 second latency, which completely destroys smooth scrolling. The Solution: Lightweight Decision Models Recently, a new category of calibrated decision models has started emerging, like TypeSafe Jev and Cloudflare Clef. Instead of generating freeform text, these models specialize in ultra-fast, structured classification in about 70 to 200ms. I decided to build an extension around this called Hide The Annoying: How It Works: Semantic Understanding: As candidate tweets enter the viewport, the extension sends the text to the decision model to evaluate context (for example, distinguishing a video game discount from a scam token launch). Soft-Collapse UX: Instead of abruptly deleting elements from the page (which causes disorienting scroll jumps), tweets are cleanly collapsed into a 40px summary bar showing why it was flagged. 1-Click Peek and Allowlist: You can expand any post with 1 click, or click "Always Allow" to whitelist that creator so they are never collapsed again. Aggressive Local Caching: Tweet IDs and author handles are evaluated once and stored locally in chrome.storage.local, keeping timeline scrolling at a buttery 60 FPS without redundant API calls. Zero Tracking and Privacy-First: No analytics scripts, no intermediary servers, and no telemetry. All requests go directly from your browser to your configured endpoint via HTTPS. Provider Flexibility: Works out-of-the-box with TypeSafe Jev or Cloudflare Workers AI (Clef), and allows entering any custom or self-hosted endpoint (like a local vLLM or Ollama instance). The project is completely free and open source.
