Original Summary
RevenueCat's Shipaton, a two-month mobile hackathon, ended on September 30. The Devpost gallery has 3,336 projects and the community showcase (apps.shipaton.com) lists 2,139 published apps. I went through all the public pages and counted. Who built 88.6% of projects were built by one person (2,955). 276 were pairs, and the biggest team had 16 people. 228 people entered more than one project, and 10 entered five or more. What they built Health & Fitness is now the biggest category (304 apps), just ahead of Productivity (288), which led in 2024 and 2025. Games went from 3.4% of apps last year to 9.5%. Going by name and tagline, the most common kind of app was a screen time or focus blocker (about 105), then workout trackers (about 100) and journals (about 84). What with (from Devpost's "Built With" field) Stack Share of projects Swift / SwiftUI 38.2% React Native / Expo 27.7% Flutter 16.6% Kotlin 14.4% Capacitor / Ionic 5.4% Kotlin Multiplatform 4.1% Unity 1.3% About 29% list an AI model: Claude 356, Gemini 336, OpenAI 272. For writing the code, 129 list Codex, 107 Claude Code and 38 Cursor. Where they shipped 56% of published apps are App Store only, 25% Google Play only, and 18.4% are on both. Last year 20.2% were on both, so the share stayed flat while the number of apps more than tripled. What they earned Only about 35 projects wrote down a revenue or MRR number for their own app. They range from $0 to "$88K in revenue" (macro, a calorie counter for the Philippines, mostly earned before the hackathon). Paternal, a pregnancy app for dads, reported $23,385 in its first month, and Ritmo got to $830 MRR in under four weeks. Caveats: this is only what's public. Revenue figures are self-reported in the write-ups, the app-type counts come from keyword matching, and I don't have access to the submission portal, so the official numbers may differ. For anyone who built cross-platform but shipped to one store: what stopped you from doing both? submitted by /u/antocapp [link] [comments]
