Original Summary
Hi guys! As a student who is extremely interested in history and how it could have possibly diverged, I've been working on an alternate history setting for a while (East Asia gets the early modern head start instead of Europe). My notes ended up spread across a doc, a folder of map screenshots and a spreadsheet of made-up words, and I couldn't find one tool that handled all of it. So, I built one. It's called Worldline. You make a world and it gets: - an encyclopedia, where entries link to each other on their own whenever a name shows up in the text - a timeline - a map for every period. On the real-world map you paint provinces year by year (it can pull real borders for a given year from OpenHistoricalMap to start from), or you can use your own map, Azgaar maps included. There are extra map modes for religion, culture, script and so on - pages for conlangs: script, sounds, grammar, a dictionary and glossed example texts - a writing section for stories, poems and in-world documents Public worlds get translated automatically, so people can read yours in their own language, and you can correct the translation by hand---though as this beta version there might be some issues with translation and I am working on these right now. AI is optional. If you switch it on, it can turn a pile of notes into a first draft, sketch map modes or suggest tags. Everything it writes is labelled and readers can hide it. Being upfront: my demo world was mostly drafted that way from my own notes, and it's labelled as such. You can also turn AI off for a world and do everything by hand. One more thing: worlds aren't read-only. In someone else's public world you can write a story set in it, add a character, or take one of the loose ends the author listed and write that one. Each world has a discussion page for questions and comments, and a list of recent activity, so you can see what people have added lately. You can access the web from this link Worldline , and this demo is my own world: https://worldline-beta.fly.dev/?w=east-asia As it is still a beta version right now it's free right now. Later I'll probably sell credits for the heavy AI jobs, but reading and writing will stay free. Please feel free to try on that and provide any feedback! P.S. Though there might be delays, I would try my best to answer any feedback from this thread! submitted by /u/Infinite-Lake-7523 [link] [comments]
