I wanted just one relatively simple thing: a local dashboard to remind me what the hell I had actually done in my personal projects. I have a bunch of projects scattered across different folders. Some have Git, some don't. After a few weeks, I could never remember which ones I'd worked on, what was still pending, or why I'd created some random folder in the first place. So I built an “offline GitHub” in pure Python, with zero dependencies. That was the original idea. Obviously, it didn't stay that way. The normal part It scans my project folders and builds an interface showing each project's README, languages, file tree, history, recent activity, diffs, and individual files. If the project has Git, it reads the git log . If it doesn't, it creates file snapshots based on hashes and records changes as a sort of commit. I can also restore previous snapshots. Pretty normal. Then I ruined it At some point I thought: “What if every project had someone responsible for it?” Five minutes later: 33 Middle-earth characters sitting at pixel-art desks. Every project now has a manager. If I worked on the project within the last 2 days, the character is working with a quill by candlelight. Between 2 and 7 days, they're napping at the Council of Elrond. More than 7 days without touching the project? They've gone to the Prancing Pony. The desk starts collecting dust and cobwebs. Yes, this is basically git status turned into a Middle-earth civil servant. The characters at neighboring desks talk to each other, throw paper airplanes, share tea, etc. And somehow it became genuinely useful Clicking a character's speech bubble opens a chat about their project. I can ask: “What's missing here?” And the character reads the project's code and answers. There's also a “Council” with 7 wizards, each looking at a different area: design, product, security, finance, data, etc. And because apparently I hadn't learned anything from the rest of the project, I made Sauron the CEO. Every 12 hours, an employee who happens to be awake can suggest an improvement for their own project and send me a notification. 💡 Théoden had an idea The ideas that seem worthwhile go into a tab called Future Projects . Which accidentally became my backlog. The part I found funniest I started this project because I wanted to get back to working on my abandoned projects. And it worked. But now there's a very specific psychological consequence: seeing Frodo sleeping at his desk for 3 weeks makes me feel guilty. It's much more effective than a to-do list. Under the hood Everything is 100% local and personal. I'm not trying to turn this into a product or a real alternative to GitHub.
