Original Summary
I’ve been building an app called Omilo . The idea is simple: You’re talking to someone who doesn’t speak your language. You hold a button, speak normally, release it, and Omilo translates what you said and speaks it out loud in the other person’s language. Then they do the same thing back. Basically, I wanted translation to feel more like a real conversation and less like typing sentences into Google Translate. I launched it on iOS and Android around two weeks ago. Technically, I’m pretty happy with it. The app works, the translation is fast, the onboarding is simple, and people are actually downloading it. But here’s the problem: Almost nobody is buying. That’s the part I’m trying to understand. Right now there’s a small paid discovery pass (€2.99 for 10 minutes), then larger minute packs for people who actually want to use it while travelling. So I’m wondering: Is the problem the pricing? Should I give free minutes before asking for payment? Is the value proposition not obvious enough? Is this something people only understand once they actually need it abroad? Or is the concept simply less compelling than I think it is? I’d genuinely rather hear “I would never pay for this because…” than get polite feedback. I’ve spent a lot of time building products over the years, and one thing I’m trying to get better at is not falling in love with my own idea. So roast the concept, pricing, positioning, onboarding — whatever you think is wrong. Omilo is available on iPhone and Android. Happy to share the link/screenshots if anyone wants to try it. submitted by /u/Pitiful-Ad1008 [link] [comments]
