I built a free check-in app. Once a day you tap to say you're OK. If you miss it, after four hours it texts a contact you've chosen. No location, no map. I assumed students were the market, a softer alternative to parents tracking them. So I asked the UK university sub directly. Three things I learned. First, the loudest opinion by far was that nobody should be checking on adult students at all, tracking or otherwise. Second, where people did approve, they described my app almost word for word - one parent said they'd just text "proof of life please" every few days. That phrase is better copy than anything I'd written. Third, and this is the one that stung, students mostly have flatmates and group chats. If they go quiet, someone notices. The app solves a problem they don't have. So I'm repositioning toward people living alone, where nobody would notice for days. Happy to answer anything about the research or the build.
