Original Summary
I've worked in brand strategy for a long time, and the part that pays off fastest for a small business has nothing to do with how it looks. It's what it does for your decisions. A lot of owners see branding as a logo and some colours. A cost for later. A fully formed brand is a clear record of who you serve and who you don't, what you promise, what you stand for and how you sound. Once you have it, it works in two ways. The everyday decisions get quick. A customer asks for something off-menu. Someone pitches a partnership. Everyone's posting about the same trend. Check it against the brand and the answer's usually already there. The hard decisions get cover. Raising prices. Turning down a big client who isn't a fit. Dropping something people keep asking for. Without a brand, those feel like gambles on your gut, and they're hard to explain to your team or your customers. With one, you're keeping a promise you already made, and you can say which one. Using it is simple: make it your first question. Is this who we serve? Does this keep our promise? What does this protect? Curious how this plays out for you: what's a hard call you made recently, and what did you lean on to make it? submitted by /u/timetoy [link] [comments]
