Hi everyone! Recently I decided I wanted to take on a side project, and landed on the idea of a notch app for Windows with lots of useful productivity tools. The kind of things you'd reach for across multiple different parts of your computer, but all in one easy-to-find place. So I've created AWNA - A Wee Notch App. It's already available and leaves the beta testing phase tomorrow, link below! I've had great feedback so far on X, a post on the WindowsApps subreddit and through the app's own feedback system. Like other notch apps, it'll put a small notch at the top of your screen. Hover over it, and it expands. I wanted to keep a clean, minimalistic look to the notch and what it expands into. There are notch apps with lots of visual identity which is great, but I wanted to go for a quiet and slim look with mine. Doesn't change size between tabs and no need to be swiping and scrolling around. Most notch apps do the same sort of thing: media controls, volume, app launcher, etc. AWNA has all of those and more, across ten tabs of tools: Today, Tasks, Notes, Time, Music, Controls, Launch, Shelf, Clipboard, Capture. The Capture tab, for instance, allows you to take static screenshots and screen recordings, you can copy text from anywhere with OCR, there's a pixel colour picker, and a webcam mirror in case you want to quickly check yourself before a call. The Shelf tab is very useful too. Drag any file onto the notch and you can add it to the shelf. You can then later drag it back out into an email or a chat whenever you like. Screenshots taken with the Capture tab land in the Shelf, which I can then drag into an X post. A lot easier than hopping around Windows Explorer. The file stays in its original directory the whole time, nothing gets copied or uploaded anywhere, it's just an easy place to leave a file. There's offline voice transcription so you can add tasks or notes by talking instead of typing. This uses an offline Whisper model, and nothing you say or type leaves your machine. You can press Ctrl+Alt+Space and AWNA expands so that you can quickly set up a timer or a task, add a link to the Launch tab, or even generate UUID/base64 strings, copied and ready to paste from your clipboard. Again, AWNA's live and available now. It's running well and I've had a great response so far. I'd love if you can try it out and let me know what you think. I'm looking at getting it into the Microsoft Store, but for now you can download and install from the AWNA site. I've had Mac users asking for a version they can use, but that'll be a big rework so won't be anytime soon. It's free to try until the end of 25 September, when the beta ends.
