Original Summary

I have a SaaS where it’s really important I rank for a certain term, we’ll pretend it’s “greeting card maker” There are two long established players that have the #1 and #2 spots on lock, but I’ve been comfortably at the #3 spot (sometimes #4) for the past year or so. It’s taken years to get there. Suddenly in the last couple months, especially the past week, I’m getting as far back as #6. I made some modest changes a month ago, nothing crazy, just to see if it would help. One of the sites ranking consistently above is MUCH newer with way less authority and backlinks. My homepage is 100% static, super performant (100s across the board), and is designed to rank for that specific keyword, yet it’s losing and very volatile in its ranking now.
