I make beats on the go and wanted to tap patterns out on pads instead of fighting a shrunk-down DAW on a phone screen. So I built PadLoop (Android). It grew a lot bigger than I planned. WHAT IT DOES Pads & sounds - 16 velocity pads across 8 banks - 29 ready-made banks and 558 built-in sounds - Sampler: record from the mic, import your own files, trim and slice - Imports 24-bit WAV straight from desktop DAWs - You can even sample what another app is playing on your phone (Android 10+) Looper & sequencer - 16-track looper with live overdub, undo-layer, double-length - Step sequencer with per-step velocity (long-press a cell) - Reversible quantize: the grid can be toggled or changed AFTER you record, without destroying your original timing - Time-stretch: set a pad "in time with the project" and it follows your BPM without changing pitch Per-pad controls - Volume, pan, pitch, attack/release - Filter (low-pass / high-pass), tempo-synced echo, lo-fi - Reverse, choke groups, one-shot / gate / loop modes Getting it out - Export WAV, MP3 or stems - Projects with autosave and backup - Share a whole bank as a file — a friend imports it and gets your kit - USB and Bluetooth MIDI controllers WHAT IT ISN'T It's deliberately not a full DAW. If you want to arrange and mix a whole song, BandLab or FL Studio Mobile are the better tool. PadLoop is for tapping beats out and looping them. The hardest part by far was the audio layer (audio focus, mic teardown freezing the UI, 24-bit WAV parsing, keeping the clock stable while you add and remove loop layers live).
