I scaled a small directory website in the food niche to around 5,000 visitors/month , and figured I’d share what I’ve learned. The interesting part is that I built the whole thing pretty simply: Built the site with Claude Code Used a simple Google Maps scraper to collect/organize the initial data Focused on a specific food-related niche rather than trying to build a massive general directory Monetized it with Amazon affiliate links, display ads, and travel affiliate offers Grew it to ~5,000 monthly visitors without a huge team or complicated tech stack There’s definitely a lot I’d do differently if I were starting over, especially around SEO, data collection, and monetization.
