Original Summary

i make document collection software for small business purpose lenders. equipment finance, factoring, sba, private lending. one to five person shops, the kind of place where the owner is also the underwriter. the build isn't the problem. the problem is i have no natural way to reach these people and no way to check whether my assumptions are right. what i've actually done so far. pulled about 74 owner level leads off linkedin sales navigator, read their profiles one at a time, and sent 18 messages over two evenings. roughly half the leads don't survive a 30 second profile check, because the filters find the right job titles and not the right business. you get consultants, advisors, wealth managers and one leadership coach, all tagged as lenders. out of 18 messages i've got one flat decline and one polite reply from someone who turned out to be a solo originator with no authority to buy anything. he was still useful, just not in the way i wanted. things i got wrong that might save you time. my first ten messages said the incumbent tool prices out shops their size, which is a stupid thing to tell a business owner, and i think it cost me most of that batch. i also assumed these people would be on twitter or reddit somewhere. they're not, they're on linkedin and in paid trade associations, and the good forums are behind membership fees. what i'm still stuck on is validation. i need someone who chases borrower paperwork for a living to tell me which half of my document checklist is wrong, and cold messaging is a slow way to find that person. so, two questions for anyone who's done this. how did you get access to an industry you had no prior connection to. and if you know someone who works in commercial lending, that's the ask. submitted by /u/hunxai69 [link] [comments]
