I wanted some collaborators. And honestly, I think there are probably people here who want the same thing. There are a lot of developers who have ideas, skills, or projects they want to work on, but finding the right people can be weirdly difficult. Everyone is scattered across different places like GitHub for code, Discord for talking, Reddit for communities, LinkedIn for networking, and more That's basically the problem I want to explore with Devmeld. Not just another place to post stuff, but somewhere developers can actually find each other, talk, and eventually sit down and build something together. I don't know if this idea is going to work yet, I'm just going to build it and find out. so yeah, decided to build a developer collaboration platform from scratch. And im using AI for coding honestly had no idea what i was doing at the start but here we are, built the home screen first - pretty simple, just three buttons (threads, DMs, code editor) and a profile sphere on top. nothing crazy yet. then came the sign up thing which took forever lol. had to figure out usernames, passwords, emails, all that stuff. also added this thing where if you try to use a bad word in your username it blocks you, wanted to make it respectful for people the profile page was next. you can change your profile picture from like 50 pre-made ones i created. Because I didnt wanted to make it very complicated at first version also if someone's being a jerk you can report them. if they get too many reports... well lets just say the system handles it oh and the app remembers you when you close it. no annoying login every time. small win but feels good. The biggest headache was making sure everything syncs properly. like when you change your pfp in profile it updates everywhere else instantly. firebase is powerful but also confusing ngl also added a bunch of security stuff behind the scenes so hackers cant mess with things. not gonna go into details but lets just say i spent way too long on firebase rules 😭 next up: the actual features (threads, DMs, and the code editor). thats where the real work starts i think I'll keep posting updates as we build more.   submitted by   /u/Petifys [link]   [comments]
