Hey, software dev with 20 years of experience here. I've built an IDE myself as a side project, and it's managed to change the way I build software at my job. I don't use VS Code or iTerm anymore - everything I need is in here. And nothing else. I even use my IDE to work on itself, which makes it even more fun. I have nothing against VS Code, I loved it for years. But it kept growing features I haven't asked for and never use, and at some point the thing I actually needed was buried under all of it. So I built the version that only has the parts I reach for. It's AI-first rather than AI-bolted-on, so you start with Claude Code or Codex window (anything really, it is just a terminal with some magic over it) and continue with the code review or make changes yourself. Rust for the backend (completely local, no server) and TypeScript/React for the UI layer. I want to get rid of TS/React eventually, but for now I'm using it with a lightweight WebView for faster iterations.
