Yes, the dumbest idea in entrepreneurial circles is to create a new Facebook. I know. But I don’t really call myself an entrepreneur. I’m just someone who couldn’t stop herself from building this. It took me a whole year(!) to make this cute little app. Remember Instagram in 2016-17? Well, meet MorrowApp - a social network without short-form videos (Reels/TikTok/Shorts), with built-in blocking of distracting content, with friends-first tab so their updates can’t get lost, feed can end, no forced recommendations and where you can post long stories and articles (and they’ll be swiped like you read a book!!!). It also has an AI filter. If it ever gets to monetization, I was planning to share the revenue back with the creators and % will be send to charity (in a category chosen by the user). If anyone’s interested: right now I have 12 users. 3 of them are my own friends, and the rest are friends of friends. Based on their feedback so far, they like the app and have asked me to add some features they’re used to (like editing photos directly in the app). Sounds promising. In fact, I could probably get a few more users, but that’ll have to wait until I finish an Android version. For me, it’s already a huge win that there is someone appreciated what I made. But until MorrowApp becomes more alive or viral, I don’t think I’ll be able to feel like the project is 100% complete. Of course, I’d love for my kids to grow up in a social media environment like MorrowApp rather than Meta or TikTok… I just started working on distribution, like last week, trying to make content for TikTok/Reels (how ironic). It’s really difficult for me, especially as someone who has never made a single video in her life and who basically gags at the sight of short-form content. Naturally, the results aren’t exactly amazing, especially with a minimal (no) budget. And that’s okay.
