I have been lurking in this sub for months. The posts that do well are 10k in two months, 8k Google clicks, six figure ARR. I read them, I upvote them, and then I close the tab feeling a bit smaller. So here is the other kind of post. Nine people bought my iPhone app in the last 28 days. $53.45. That is less than a weekly grocery run. Next to the numbers that reach the front page here it is a rounding error, and I genuinely sat on this for a few days because of that. I am posting it anyway, because it is the first money I have ever earned from something I built. Not a salary. Not a client. Nine strangers I will never meet decided a thing I made was worth paying for, while I was asleep. I have wanted that for years and I did not want to let it slide past without saying it out loud. Here is the whole picture, including the parts that are not flattering. The app went live in March and earned exactly zero for five months. Not slow growth. Zero. I had talked myself into the idea that nobody pays for small utility apps any more. Last 28 days: $53. The 28 days before that: $17. 300 people opened the app for the first time in those 28 days. Nine paid. So about 97 out of 100 did not. My App Store rating is 2.25 stars from 4 ratings. That is the real number and it is bad. Two of those reviews are against a version from months ago that is long fixed, which does not matter at all, because that number sits under my app name in every single search result. Three out of four of my installs come from App Store search. Everything I had planned to do on social would have been noise. What changed in month six was not a feature. I stopped building and spent two weeks on boring work instead: rewrote the store listing and the keywords, replied to every review I had been ignoring, fixed the paywall so it states the one time price plainly instead of burying it, and got the app listed on one small privacy directory. Then the sales started. For context, the app is an offline AI chat for iPhone. Open models run on the phone itself, so it works on a plane and nothing leaves the device.
