Four of us spent about forty messages last month trying to pick a dinner night. Everyone had already stated their availability. The information was all there, in the thread, in plain English. Nobody wanted to be the person who scrolled back up and made a table out of it. So I built ctxual. It's a phone number. You add it to the group text like a contact. It reads along and says nothing at all until someone marks a message with ©, either typed or as a tapback reaction. Then it reads the thread and answers once, to everyone. The dinner thing, for real: Maya: dinner this week? i'm around tues or thurs Dev: tues is bad for me. any night after 7 otherwise Sam: thurs or fri works Maya: what night works for all of us? © ctxual: Thursday after 7 is the only night nobody has ruled out. Maya and Sam are free all evening, Dev is good after 7. In a group it has no access to anyone's email or calendar. That's not a feature I forgot. A group text is a shared room and I don't want anything out of one person's inbox showing up in it, so the only things it can see are the transcript and web search. It also won't name someone who hasn't spoken. If two people never answered, it says two people haven't answered. No app, no account, nothing to sign up for.
