I often struggled to study from YouTube because the platform constantly recommends unrelated videos, thumbnails, comments, and other distractions. So I built FocusCourse Studio, a learning platform that turns YouTube content into a more focused, course-like experience. What it does • Create structured courses from individual YouTube videos or complete playlists. • Organize content into courses, modules, and lessons. • Watch videos inside a distraction-free learning interface instead of browsing YouTube. • Use a built-in focus timer that can pause the lesson when it is time to take a break. • Generate AI-powered assignments related to the lesson using Google Gemini. • Track course completion and monitor your learning progress. • Set deadlines to help maintain a consistent study routine. • Keep courses private or share them publicly as open learning resources. • Unlock small restorative games, such as a pixel-style Flappy game and a mini block-world game, after completing learning milestones. • Use it as an Android-installable PWA without needing a traditional app installation. • Run it locally on Windows using the included setup instructions. Why use it? YouTube is excellent for finding educational content, but it is not always designed for focused learning. FocusCourse Studio is intended to provide: • Fewer visual and algorithmic distractions. • A clearer course structure. • Better motivation through progress tracking and milestones. • Active learning through assignments instead of passive video watching. • Scheduled breaks to reduce fatigue. • A personal learning space that can be shared with others. The platform does not replace YouTube. It uses YouTube content while providing a more focused learning environment around it. I built it with React, TypeScript, Express, tRPC, MySQL/TiDB, Google Gemini, and the YouTube Data API. The interface uses a high-contrast monochrome design to keep attention on the content.
