Original Summary
The problem I kept hitting: I'd open my pantry, see plenty of food, and still order takeout because I couldn't think of what to make. v1 of my app made you add items manually. Almost nobody stuck with it. Typing in 40 groceries is too much friction. So for 2.0 I rebuilt the core around a single photo. You snap your pantry, AI identifies the items, estimates expiry dates, and suggests recipes from what you already have. What I learned: Show value fast. If the payoff isn't obvious right away, users churn. Concrete results early build trust. Let users correct the AI. The scanner won't be right every time, so easy editing kept people around. Make the next action obvious. You use your own app daily, so it feels intuitive to you. It usually isn't. Still figuring out a monetization flow that shows the value of premium without getting in the way. How have others approached this? Video below shows the flow (one photo -> detected items -> matching recipes). Looking for honest feedback on the flow. submitted by /u/TeoscartheGOAT [link] [comments]
