Original Summary
Recently I launched Pholu, a private memory-sharing app I originally built because I wanted something more personal than social media for keeping memories with someone close to me. The idea is pretty simple: you create private shared spaces with your partner, family, etc., and keep your photos, videos, audio and memories there. No followers, likes or public feed. I’ve also been adding AI features to help people find and revisit old memories. Building it was difficult, but... getting people to actually discover it feels 10x harder. I designed, buil the app, make the website, created videos and posts, but distribution is where I feel completely out of my depth. I’ve started experimenting with short-form content and paid ads, but I don’t want to just burn money trying random things. For people here who have launched a consumer app: How did you get your first 100–1,000 real users? Was it Reddit? TikTok/Instagram? Paid ads? Influencers? Communities? SEO? Just manually talking to people? And looking back, what was a complete waste of time or money? I’m especially interested in hearing from people who started with basically no audience. Happy to share what I’ve tried so far too. submitted by /u/kurokisen [link] [comments]
