Original Summary
Every time I see "AI NPCs" in a side project, they usually feel like a ChatGPT window slapped onto a character model. The problem is a lack of constraints; they talk too much and don't know when to stop. I've been iterating on Mythio to fix this by treating "words" as a game mechanic. I implemented a constraint system where the AI is forced to adhere to specific character archetypes and narrative goals, rather than just being a helpful assistant. Observations: - Narrative coherence improved significantly when limiting token output based on character "energy." - Players report the NPCs feel "curt" or "mysterious" rather than "robotic." I'm trying to find the sweet spot between total freedom and narrative guardrails. For those of you building narrative games, how do you prevent AI characters from rambling? submitted by /u/harshk0987 [link] [comments]
