Original Summary

Hi all! I'm a solo dev who's built ifso.io , a financial simulator app that lets you build out financial plans and see how they play out. You can use it without signing up at ifso.io/try , all of your plan data and configuration just stays local in your browser until you decide to sign in. If you sign in, your plans persist with your account so you can access them across devices. My goal was to create an easy to use and as-intuitive-as-possible interface for financial planning. I found with existing tools the various "knobs" are hard to find and reason about. With Ifso, you effectively enter your current financial scenario and add in the decisions you want to make and the simulation engine plays it all out for you. The engine takes all of the moving pieces into consideration for you, including income taxes, loan amortizations, capital gains, and so on. You can see how retirement will play out by defining your withdrawal strategy, when you want to retire and claim SS, and so on. Behind the scenes, Ifso will handle all of the withdrawal logic for you, even including bridge account drawdowns if you want to retire early. You can play out any number of decisions and scenarios, such as changing how much you contribute to retirement, changing up how much you pay extra towards your home principal, converting a property to a rental and getting cash flow, and much more. I'm continuously adding capabilities here, and it's pretty scalable so if there's ever anything you'd like to see specifically, I'd be happy to add it in. You can run Monte Carlo simulations to see how your plan holds up when battle-tested against varying market returns, and you can configure how aggressive you want the simulation to be. You can also create multiple plans (either by cloning an existing one or creating a fresh one) and compare them side by side. Ifso shows you which plan inches out and how your account balances compare between the two scenarios. Excited for folks to try it and share their thoughts! If there's any thoughts on additional capabilities or overall UX improvements, feel free to share them and I'll work on getting those done. submitted by /u/RabbitWithADHD [link] [comments]
