Textured ( https://textured.fyi ) is an instrument you play with words that I made to play with Jev and procedural synthesis in the browser. Jev takes text and answers narrow questions with typed results - a score on a scale you define, or probabilities across choices you define. That gives your code something concrete to work with. Type 'a nervous elevator' into Textured and hear what happens. Jev answers eleven questions about the description - how much energy, how bright, how tense, which scale, and so on. Textured maps those answers onto a synthesiser compiled to WebAssembly, running in your browser. You can then turn the knobs yourself. An interesting part is that the description becomes a kind of readable preset. You share the words, and someone else’s browser interprets them into sound. How consistently the model reproduces that is part of the experiment.
