Original Summary
got laid off and ended up building a weird little internet project in one night..then redesigned the whole thing a couple nights ago The idea was a giant shared mural. 100,000 spots. You upload a photo for $1.99 and it becomes part of the wall. Your dog might end up next to somebody’s wedding photo or a logo for a business you’ve never heard of. Everyone gets to pick what they put there. I built the first version with AI tools, no traditional coding background. Which becomes relevant pretty quickly lol. Day 9, someone exploited a security gap I’d left open and deleted every tile record. I had 6 paying customers. Obviously that’s a tiny number, but having to message all six and explain that their photos disappeared from the thing I said would keep them permanently… yeah. I contacted everyone within 30 minutes and restored the tiles by hand. Fixed the permissions, added backups. Nobody had to buy their spot again. One of the first customers just replied “glad you sorted it out.” Anyways, still working on it. As of September 14 there were 79 tiles. Out of 100,000, so there’s quite a bit of room left haha. The plan is to print the mural 12 feet wide and display it in Wynwood during Art Basel Miami week this December. Going from a website to something people can actually walk up to is the part I’m most excited about but getting people involved has been slow. Reddit has helped. Sent press pitches too, nothing landed there yet. Recently someone working at a local store added a photo after finding one of my QR stickers. Then she gave me three local arts/media contacts to try. That was tile #79. I like imagining someone finding their own picture in the print, then looking at whatever’s next to it. A photo they know everything about beside one they know absolutely nothing about. Still a lot to figure out before December. But the wall is growing. It’s called One Tile: onetile.me You can look around for free. A photo spot is $1.99, or $9.99 if you want to attach a clickable link. What would you put on it? Curious whether people would pick a big life moment or just a random picture they really like submitted by /u/ReasonableFee95 [link] [comments]
