Original Summary

I make Porn Blocker Pro, an Android content blocker. Sharing this because the mistake is generic and the numbers are real. Launch (late March): ~500 installs/week from Play search, 12 lifetime purchases in April, mostly US/EU. Felt great. 21 April: installs fell 70% overnight. No policy strike, no ads stopped. It was exactly 4 weeks after launch - the end of Play's new-app boost. From mid-June to late August the app got zero visitors from Play search at all. What Play was looking at, from the console exports: - 84% of installs uninstalled in the first days (3,296 installs, 3,245 uninstalls lifetime) - ~10 ratings ever, because my review prompt required a 7-day streak or 50 blocks - 7,000 store visitors came from people searching the single word "porn", installed by mistake at 4.5%, and left - every one a fast uninstall against me - 65% of new users hit the paywall in their first session What I changed this week: 1. Onboarding ends with protection running, no paywall. The paywall shows once, after the app has actually blocked something. 2. Review prompt after the first block + a return visit, not after 7 days. 3. Yearly plan first and pre-selected; lifetime at $20 was what everyone cancelled on the Google sheet. 4. Local pricing for India/Indonesia/Pakistan instead of exchange-rate conversions. 5. One release a week instead of the 30 I shipped in six weeks. 6. A landing page and communities like this, so Play isn't my only door. I'll post the retention and ranking numbers again in 6 weeks either way. If you've recovered an app from a Play ranking drop, what worked? submitted by /u/MumbaiMillionaire [link] [comments]
