Most advice for indie makers starts with two things: pick a specific niche, then go where those users already are. I did the first part—maybe a little too well. I built Polara, an iPhone app that helps pole dancers remember the tricks they’ve learned, track what they’re working on or have landed, and keep a record of their practice sessions. I’ve attached a demo because it’s much easier to understand visually. The encouraging part is that a few people I’ve never met have found the app organically and paid for it. Some seed users have also told me they’re still using it regularly. That’s obviously not enough to suggest a product-market fit, but it’s enough of a signal that I want to keep going.
