I finally released the first public version of a side project I’ve been building: Cocklebur . The idea came from wanting something lighter than the usual project-management tools. I often have projects that are temporary - research work on my own or with others, small collaborations, experiments, community projects, random things I’m building, and I didn’t really want them to become permanent residents inside some giant workspace. I used those “popular” project management and note apps before but I never used them long because there are so many functions that I don’t need and complicated, also I feel insecure that I can’t take the projects with me. So Cocklebur is built around a pretty simple idea: start a project → work in one place → when it’s done, zip, pack the whole thing up and take it with you. It currently has: - projects + dashboard - to-dos/notes and events - announcements - discussion channels with titled threads - project files - export/import of the whole project - a local macOS version - a self-hosted Docker version for small teams I intentionally kept it local/self-hosted rather than turning it into another SaaS because of privacy concerns.
